Oil Under Sherwood Forest
'Oil.under Sherwood Forest' a 49 page booklet telling the amazing story of oil extraction from the middle of England, beginning with the first oil well on private land owned by the Duke of Devonshire, and then the important oil fields around Eakring. This is a small village just outside Newark, Nottinghamshire - and this site played a vital role during the Second World War.
The booklet also brings the story right up to date - with the erection of a memorial statue mainly funded by oil companies both in England and in America, and the transfer of the site to the Nottinghamshire Trust for Nature Conservation.
